Top 10 Mobile Banking Apps

November 8, 2015

It is becoming the norm for established companies to offer a mobile app as a part of their entourage of services and this is true for financial institutions too. Consumers no longer need to visit the bank to complete many banking errands and expect around the clock access to their banking accounts - thanks to app development companies in Dubai. Banks are under the spotlight for the usability of their mobile offerings and many consumers have highlighted problems with design, bugs and lack of popular services such as mobile deposits. It's not all bad though. Here are our top 10 mobile banking apps from around the world.

1) Simple

Simple

Even though Simple s a smaller online bank, it ranks highly in the ratings for two reasons: its extremely easy interface and its add-on features, not offered widely by other apps. Simple takes its app services one step further by not only showing details of your bank account, but by helping users to manage their money too. Its Safe-to-Spend tool takes the account balance of the user and deducts up-coming bills, giving a more realistic overview of money available. Add to this other user friendly features such as cheque deposit and easy transfer tools to both Simple customers and customers of other financial institutions.

2) Mashreq UAE

Mashreq UAE

The Snapp Mashreq Mobile Banking application is one of the best apps in the Middle East region. It's quick and easy to understand with a seamless interface. Users can check their account balances, pay bills, transfer money, access account services and view foreign exchange rates. The app doesn't stop there and also provides users the bank's famous Mashreq flavors that lists out deals at restaurants nearby. This app has successfully combined banking with real-life activities, such as going to dinner deals.

3) Bank of America

Bank of America

The best thing about The Bank of America mobile app is how easy it is to use. The interface for the app was designed with the customer in mind. You don't have to dig too deep to find what you are looking for and most features can be found from their accounts tab. In addition, The B0fA is leading the way in services on its mobile app including the popular AmeriDeals that offer several brand-funded deals and cash-back rewards. The bank constantly refines and improves its app based on customer feedback.

4) American Express

American Express

American Express is the leader in the rewards space when it comes to banking mobile apps. It awards card members based on their locations if they use the geo-location service. The tool is called 'My Offers' and combines Amex spend history with location information to reward customers with more relevant discounts and recommendations from nearby shops. The process becomes more refined as customers select the deals they want.

5) USAA

USAA

The USAA mobile banking app has just about everything you could ask for from a banking app. You can do everything from the more simple tasks of paying bills to trading in your investment account. One cool feature is a tool to find the nearest ATM to your current location. This isn't it though. Earlier this year they began using facial and voice recognition as a way for users to log in to their accounts. All users need to do is blink an eye or speak a phase and they are logged in. Pretty cool stuff.

6) RBS Citizens

RBS Citizens

RBS took the word of 900 customers and a 15-person panel of advisors to design the first version of their mobile banking app and it is now one of the highest rating apps in the Apple Store and on Google Play. It has all the important features that a banking app user is looking for packaged in a simple and effective design.

7) BBVA

BBVA

The BBVA was the first bank to allow users to sign up straight to their mobile app and skip the online banking step first. In addition it was the first to offer an app for Amazon Kindle Fire and has added other customer-centric features such as letting users flip through their cheque images and easy-to-understand legal disclosures.

8) Barclay's

Barclay's

Barclay's mobile banking app is the most popular in the UK and innovation is the top reason why it is such a success. The app offers services such as an integrated borrowing calculator within the app so customers can get an estimate on how much money they can borrow from the bank. The app has a digital lockbox for important documentation such as passport information, receipts and bills. It also adds a personal touch where users can select an image for their app over the standard image.

9) Sparkasse

Sparkasse

This is a surprise entry, as the usability of Sparkasse isn't particularly strong. The appeal of the German mobile banking app is the security of the app, something that was the utmost importance to the bank's customers. The emphasis in this app is on individual protection and security so customers have the option to get a one-time password to check bank details and anonymous balances that show in the case of the phone being lost or stolen.

10) YNAB - You Need a Budget

YNAB - You Need a Budget

The reason we particularly like this app is because YNAB can link users on the same accounts via their mobile devices and computers. It also has a cloud sync feature that integrates across different platforms. The more apps consider an omnichannel approach and provide tools to make this easy, the more successful they will be.
